Congratulations to Sportsafe’s hometown of Colchester on being awarded the city status as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

In its city status bid, the council highlighted Colchester’s long and varied history, its growth into an important regional centre, the town’s strong royal and military links, as well as its artistic and cultural offers. Now in 2022, Sportsafe not only celebrates its 25th anniversary, but also the fantastic achievement of its birthplace. We are delighted that the UK’s first Roman city has become the country’s newest city.

We are proud to have been supporting the local economy and communities of Colchester since 1997. Sportsafe has expanded beyond all recognition from a team of two, to now more than 70 staff members at three locations throughout the UK: Colchester (Our Head Office), Wigan and Scotland.

We are now at the forefront of the sports equipment maintenance industry, offering our expert knowledge, advice, and services to over 10,000 schools and more than 100 county and borough councils, police, and fire authorities.

Just over a decade ago, Essex was the seventh-largest county in England but did not have a single city. Now it will have three. We are confident that Colchester’s city status and its position as an important regional centre will provide Sportsafe with continued growth opportunities and help us support the next generations for decades to come.
