The Sportsafe commitment to supporting the next generation is central to everything we do – including giving our own trainees the best possible opportunities, experiences and challenges right across the British Isles.
So, when the States of Guernsey council selected Sportsafe to inspect Guernsey and Alderney schools, leisure facilities, public playgrounds (with independent schools also following their lead) – it was a dream learning opportunity for one trainee technician.
With such a massive, multi-discipline, multi-location inspection project to fulfil across five days, an elite team of three experienced engineers was created to provide the best possible service for the clients and superb training support for the trainee.
It was this full range of skills and combined extensive experience that quickly proved invaluable as the team set to work on the Monday inspecting state-maintained and independent school facilities, outdoor play areas and leisure centre equipment on Guernsey. A flight to Alderney later in the week ensued for school inspections where, once again, the experience and expertise of the Sportsafe team meant that thorough inspections, quotes and recommendations could be efficiently created within a tight schedule.
“This was my first visit to Guernsey and, although we had a 6am start every morning and very busy days ahead, the sunrises, views and team camaraderie were amazing,” commented Sportsafe trainee engineer, Benji Scragg. “The whole week was a challenging logistics operation because of the number of sites we had to visit but the schools and leisure centres in particular gave us a really warm welcome and I learnt so much. I especially enjoyed the sports equipment inspections working alongside Tony Gill and watching him use his experience and knowledge to handle every issue effectively. They were long working days but definitely a valuable training opportunity for me and great to be part of such a strong team. As this was a full week project, it was also good to socialise with the others in the evenings, enjoying the delicious Guernsey food and appreciating the fantastic landscape.”
Not only was the whole trip immensely successful as a work project but Service, Repair and Maintenance engineer and keen amateur and competition photographer, Wayne Fowler, also managed to capture some superb shots to remember the Sportsafe Guernsey and Alderney week.
