Playground Bark Installation – St Cedd’s Primary School
The Brief
As part of this play area improvement project, the existing bonded rubber mulch surfacing had reached the end of its serviceable life and required replacement. The project involved the complete removal and off-site disposal of approximately 120m² of bonded rubber mulch surfacing at 90mm depth, together with the existing timber edging, weed membrane, cut-off timber posts, and plastic tube components.
Installation
To create a durable and low-maintenance play environment, 11 linear metres of new timber edging were installed to define the play space. A new weed-suppressing membrane was laid across 102m² to help prevent vegetation growth and maintain the integrity of the surface.
The area was then resurfaced with 42,000 litres of certified play bark installed to a depth of 300mm, providing a compliant impact-absorbing surface suitable for continued play area use. The completed refurbishment significantly enhanced both the appearance and safety of the play space while extending its lifespan for future users.
Outcome
St Cedd’s Primary School were over the moon with their new play surface which will allow pupils to have safe play for years to come.
