Why Sports Equipment Inspections are Essential for Ofsted Readiness

The dreaded “O” word, we all know what it means, we all know it has to be spoken about eventually and it creeps up every year, sooner than expected… The Ofsted Inspection!

Ofsted is the “Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills.” Their aim is to inspect services providing education and skills for learners of all ages, basically meaning, if you work in the education sector, you know about them!

It’s important that education providers are taking steps to maintain a high level on the Ofsted scale all year round, not just when their inspection comes around. So, what steps can you take to keep an outstanding rated sports provision in your school?

Inspection

Having an up-to-date sports health and safety certificate proves that your equipment is up to standard, demonstrating good practice not only to Ofsted, but to insurance companies and potential new pupils.

Sportsafe also holds CHAS and RPII accreditations, along with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 whilst being members of afPE. This reassures Ofsted that you are using a reputable inspector for your equipment and are compliant to necessary safety standards, promoting the safety of users, and potentially giving you that extra tick on your report!

Equipment

But what else are Ofsted looking for besides your annual health and safety inspection certificate? They are looking specifically for the overall effectiveness of the subject, the quality of teaching in the subject and the quality of the subject curriculum. Ensuring you are offering inclusive equipment for all pupils, including those with motor issues or SEN pupils, allows everyone to participate safely in physical education lessons and extracurricular activities.

Planning lessons to not only hit the curriculum requirements, but also with a focus on targeting motor skills in young individuals will certainly show Ofsted that you are being mindful with every lesson you plan and session you run.

The “O” word doesn’t need to be as scary as it is made out to be! Taking the necessary steps to maintain a steady and safe sports provision will give you the reassurance that you are ready for your inspection, whenever it may creep up.

If you are stuck on what products will allow you to run inclusive lessons, speak to a friendly member of the team who will happily advise you on what could help you achieve these goals…
