With the new school year underway across the country, it is important for all schools to ensure that their sports and play equipment is safe and suitable for intense use over the course of the year. With this in mind, we thought it would be a good idea to discuss the importance of regular safety inspections and why it’s vital to act on the recommendations made during these visits.
Making sure your pupils are safe whilst at school is a major priority for all concerned, this is why regularly checking all of your sport and play equipment is essential. For the most part, your staff are responsible for making sure that equipment is not damaged and that it is being used safely at all times.
As well as general safety checks made by your on-site staff, it is also very important to get all of your equipment inspected and serviced regularly. These external checks, by professionals, may expose problems with equipment that you were not aware of and will allow you to either have the equipment repaired or replaced before it causes injuries to any of your pupils or staff.
The Association for Physical Education says “an inspection should be carried out at least once a year”
Besides the obvious need to keep your pupils and staff safe at all times there are a number of other very important reasons to regularly inspect and maintain your equipment:
• Optimise equipment availability
• Prolong equipment life
• Minimise overall maintenance costs
• British Standard 1892 Part 1: 1986 states that ‘it is important that all physical education apparatus is maintained in a first class, fully safe condition’
• Remember, safety is your responsibility
• For peace of mind
Now is the perfect time to arrange your inspection!
As it is the beginning of a new school year, there is no better time to arrange a full service and inspection of your sport and play equipment and gain confidence that your facilities are safe and meet all necessary standards.
We are experts in the service and maintenance of all indoor and outdoor sport and play equipment. We have nationwide coverage and can even add many schools to an existing council or umbrella contract.
An inspection report will be produced during our visit and sent electronically, indicating what we have inspected and any unsafe or dangerous equipment listed.
