Daily Mile Track, Suffolk

Sir Robert Hitcham Primary School was looking for a fun way to get their children active throughout the day and asked Sportsafe to come up with ideas. They loved our idea of a daily mile track where pupils could follow coloured footprints in all weathers to up their exercise goal with friends.

Sportsafe installed a start point and fun footprints across the playground with directional and safety markings, telling the children exactly how many laps they would have to run to complete their daily mile. An all weather track was then installed across the playing field, taking the children through the existing trees to make the most of their beautiful outdoor area.

The school was thrilled with the result and loved that the project was delivered with directional and safety markings to ensure the safety of all users. The all weather track also allows the children to play all year round, supporting their motor and communication skills. The result? A huge success for Sir Robert Hitcham Primary School!

Deputy Headteacher Gavin Middleton said: “The amount of usage the daily mile track is getting far outweighs my expectations. The kids love the fact they know how far they need to go and that it isn’t boring and follows the existing features including going through the existing trees.”

The track has received a big thumbs up from the children too. Some said they had taken up exercise since the track had been fitted while others said they enjoyed doing it with their friends because it was like going for a walk in the park.
