brexitIn June 2016 the country voted and democracy prevailed; we voted to leave the EU and the country started to deal with the shock waves.  Three months have now passed and Brexit is still a popular news item and talking point but what has happened during that time at Sportsafe is quite extraordinary.

As a British business the owners of Sportsafe UK voted to remain; the export side of the business had been in operation since the previous autumn and was doing well, Sportsafe had seen a 2000 customer growth in its core sports equipment inspection and maintenance business, two new divisions had been launched Outdoor Spaces and Branded Teamwear, new premises opened in York creating their fifth office in the UK with further expansion on the horizon into Germany.

Unsure how the vote would go Sportsafe UK Senior Management created a contingency plan for the business which included a British supply chain directive, new products and services and new markets of delivery.

Brexit hasn’t impacted Sportsafe UK and in fact at Sportsafe business is booming:

  • The purchase of SJD Installations and the expansion of our internal installations division culminating in five sports hall installations in the quarter.
  • Design, manufacture and installation of a trampoline park in Hull with Jump Street, Chelmsford confirmed for autumn 2016.
  • Creation of the first Ninja Warrior Course for Colchester – opening this year.
  • Over 2 million pounds of orders in three months –more than double the same period in 2015.
  • 22 new staff for the company across the five offices.
  • One additional fire service contract to inspect and maintain all the station’s fitness equipment
  • Four council contracts won for the inspection and maintenance of their school sports equipment – that’s 766 schools.

So what is next for Sportsafe – if you spoke to the team they would say “a bigger car park”!

Jonathan Neill, Managing Director added “Being honest I truly believed that the vote would have been to remain in the EU but all credit to my senior team, who researched, planned and implemented our Brexit contingency plan. We have seen phenomenal growth during quarter three and having set ourselves high turnover targets for 2016 based on the export side of the business, we are still going to reach these due to how the team has adapted to a change in direction.  With over 90 staff, across five offices stretching from Fort William to Caerphilly it can be very difficult to implement big product and service delivery decisions but the team grabbed it with both hands.”

Looking forward – Sportsafe is very excited about expanding and developing the new divisions. Our Installations Team has continued to win high profile projects across prestigious Universities and Premiership Football Clubs. Sportsafe has won additional contracts to build further Trampoline Parks and Ninja Warrior courses across the UK.

Our Outdoor Spaces division is having a record year and continues to deliver innovative and creative play solutions, whilst our Branded Teamwear division is winning new customers on a daily basis.

Sportsafe UK has the capability, experience, and skill to deliver small and large scale projects alike across a wide spectrum of sports, ask and you’ll be surprised! We have launched three new websites in this quarter, to showcase our wider range of products and services.

What a quarter it has been, Sportsafe UK has seen no impact of Brexit and looks forward with confidence into the year ahead.
