On the 21st November, the Colchester Sports Personality of the Year Awards took place at the Weston Homes Community Stadium in Colchester.  Once again we were pleased to sponsor the U18’s Male Sports Personality of the Year Award.

The winner of the category was fencer Myles Ashforth; Myles has achieved some great results this year, including winning the British U14 Epee Championship, the first time for 20 years that it has been won by anyone fencing for the Eastern Region. He was also 3rd in the British U14 Foil Championship.

Other notable performances include silver in the Essex County Senior Championships and bronze in the Leon Paul London U17 competition.

He is the only fencer to qualify for both epee and foil U15 England squads in 2016. Currently, he is ranked 4th in the epee and 5th in the foil in the England U15 rankings and will certainly be selected for both squads in 2017 (the third consecutive year he has achieved this).

Commendations also went to Joe MacGregor (Cricket) and George Dobson (Gymnastics/ Trampolining.

Alistair Wilson, Sales Director at Sportsafe UK and the Mayor of Colchester, Cllr Julie Young presented the award.

The evening celebrated the tremendous sporting achievement in Colchester and it was an honour to be associated with such dedicated athletes.
